3)      DESCRIPTION

Department of Public Libraries came into existence in the year 1966, after the implementation of Public Libraries Act 1965.  The State Central Library situated in Bangalore City at Cubbon Park, Behind High Court Building.  This is an apex library in the state which acts as reference library having under its control the following sections-copy right division, Braillie Section, Children Section, Newspaper and periodical sections.  The Karnataka Public Library Act enable to establish District Central Libraries for each revenue District. Further it makes provision to start city central libraries for each city having the population strength exceeds one lakh.  Every District Central Library establishes branch library at each Taluk Head Quarters, like wise every City Central Library in the urban areas establishes branch libraries to each extensions, for example:  Mysore City Central Library started branch libraries to Lakshmipuram, Siddartha Layout, Gandhinagara, Jayalakshmipuram, Kuvempunagar etc., The working system of public libraries can be shown through diagrammatically as follows:-

4)      SCHEMES/PLANS BENEFITS TO PUBLIC

Public Library System (or) public library is called as people’s University.  Here, any person of the society can be avail the available library services irrespective of caste, creed, colour, age and sex, public libraries are rendering reference service of books, periodicals, Gazette, Employment Information ; career information etc., to general public, students, professionals, technicians without any profit motive. In other words it may say that the public libraries are giving service with free of cost. Libraries are housed with all kinds of books on General Knowledge, General Science, Mathematics, Public Administrations, History, Economics, Political Science, Physics, Chemistry, Law, Ethics etc.,

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Public who wants to borrow books should become a member of library by depositing normal fee as mentioned below.

 

To borrow One book       –  Rs.25.00

To borrow Two books     –  Rs.30.00

To borrow Three books   –  Rs.40.00

 

The duration to keep and use the lending books fixed to 15 day’s.  If the reader wants to renewal the same book, He / She may be permitted for next 15 day’s.  25 paise per day per book will be charged as penalty after the due date.  Generally public libraries are working between morning 8.30am to evening 8.00pm.  The working hours changed on the basis of working staff strength.  Weekly holiday is on every Monday and every second Tuesday.
